After spending Saturday mowing the yard, making pizzas from scratch, and working around the house, the only thing on my mind was settling down to watch a few episodes of Psych or possibly some extras on the Lord of the Rings trilogy (nerd alert).
However, after getting the kitchen cleaned up, changing into my pj's, and making some sugar-free pudding for dessert, I walked into the living room and discovered that the dear hubby was curled up on the sofa with no desire to watch anything.
This was my moment of truth.
As I stood there holding two bowls of pudding, I realized in that moment that he was so much more important than any TV show or movie extras. I plopped down on the couch and told him that very thing, which is when he looked at me and said, "You really have grown up, haven't you?"
Yes, yes I believe I have.

Growing Up

C.S. Lewis once said, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." Dream BIG. After going "there and back again," The Hubs & I have created a home that is full of books, stimulating conversation, and the laughter of our five kids. We have been the recipients of Amazing Grace, and our life goals can be summed up in four words: Love God, love people.

Some of our best evenings are when we intentionally switch off the TV (or don't switch it on at all) and just talk. :) Missed popping by your place my friend. So sorry I've missed so many posts. Life has taken over and my time for blog reading has been little to none. Glad I caught this post though :)
ReplyDeleteAww...thanks for stopping by and taking the time to say hello, Sophie! Those busy times happen, but I hope to see you blogging again in the near future - and you're always welcome to be a blog lurker (even though I love hearing from you). :-)
DeleteI love the blog changes! I was also excited to read that God has opened up a new job... How exciting! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christi! I'm loving the changes as well (including the ability to respond directly to comments!). The new job is a huge gift from God and I love being able to use the abilities that He has given me - for pay!
DeleteHI Carrie, You have done so much on your page. LOVE IT! I just emailed you a LONG email...sorry for the length. I like that place you are in right now and especially that Peter is truly appreciating it. AWESOME!

Thanks, Irish! I never got your email, though. :-(
DeleteAww, that's so cute! I have to say I love me some TV, but sometimes you've just got to keep it turned off. I find I can't focus on anything else with the TV on -- which I guess is both bad and good. So if I'm watching it, I'm watching it. But I'm way more productive without it on :) And for some couch time and a cuddle -- totally worth keeping it off! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm clearly a sucker for TV shows on DVD, but May was a month when I was reminded several times (by the deaths of family friends) that allowing the Lord to shine through my life, and spending time with loved ones are what it's all about. Sometimes spending time with Peter DOES involve watching TV or a movie, but that night - it just didn't. Life is too short to waste it arguing about stuff that doesn't matter.
