Do you feel a sudden urge to eat some Dunkin' Donuts? Just wondering...
I know that Halloween is one of those holidays where people, who otherwise agree, part ways. I grew up with friends who went trick-or-treating and with friends who kept their houses pitch black on the 31st. If you've read any of my posts in the past, you know I'm a fan of holidays in general. Without trying to get into some sort of debate on the blog, let me just say that I understand the viewpoints of those who want nothing to do with Halloween, as well as those who see it as a harmless day of fun for kids.
In fact, I had a whole diatribe written up about the subject of Halloween celebrations, but then I decided it just wasn't the place to share. Instead, if you have about nine minutes and don't mind watching a cartoon, then please enjoy seeing Donald Duck get his comeuppance in the 1952 Disney classic, "Trick or Treat" - one of my holiday favorites from childhood. If you're headed out tonight to watch your kids demand candy from strangers, be careful out there. If you're keeping your windows dark, enjoy the night at home.
Our plans? Well, we never have trick-or-treaters come to our house, so we'll be spending the evening catching up with some out-of-town friends who are just in for the night. As we knew we'd be busy on the 31st, we spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon carving pumpkins on the front porch before snuggling up on the bed with our laptop to watch Arsenic and Old Lace. Cary Grant never fails to make us laugh with his comic lines, "I should have told you this before. Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops!"
Have a great Monday - however you're spending the day!
Hope you have a great Monday too! We will be heading out Trick or Treating. Yes, I'm one of those who view it is a harmless fun day for the kids :)
ReplyDeleteLove your pumpkins!!! How neat that you carve both sides :)
Have a fun evening with friends...that is a great way to spend any evening.
ReplyDeleteMe? I will be bowling, wearing black, orange, and 'spooky' socks! (hehehe) We get zero kiddo 'beggers' at our house since we've moved, so Ed and Jen will probably be snoring when I get home. :)
What a great, fun post. Love the photos and that you find the fun out of this day. Great job carving. We love the corn mazes here in Michigan. Just enjoyed that last night with my daughter. Happy 31st. Take care Carrie. = )
